Charlotte Douglas International Airport: Terminal Lobby Expansion

K2M Design team members with Gresham Smith were selected to design the Terminal Lobby Expansion for CLT. Having begun construction in late 2019, this massive addition to CLT’s main terminal will completely revitalize, expand, and improve the overall passenger experience at CLT.

From the approach to the new elevated roadway, passengers will be greeted by an expansive curtain wall and large entrance portals to quickly orient and guide travelers to their destination. An intriguing and vast canopy overhead protects travelers from the elements when being dropped off or crossing overhead on one of the two connector bridges. The bridges will safely route passengers utilizing the Rental Car Facility over the vehicle traffic and through the portals. Once inside, passengers are greeted by a expansive terminal with ticket counters and TSA checkpoints easily identifiable with minimal signage.

The roughly 366,000 square foot addition/renovation will drastically improve the passenger experience through the terminal, navigating TSA checkpoints, baggage claim and exiting.
